One of my round Bridgwater circle series from the photograph captured while walking down George Street in Bridgwater, Somerset. An old gate paint peeling from the site of the oldest pub in Bridgwater. The George Inn building proudly displays the blue plaque with its historic roots, but the building is falling into a sad state of repair – right here in the heart of the town.
The photo captured the cracked and peeling paintwork, exposing all the colours it has ever been painted. Quite stylish iron work must have cost a bit when new, not quite sure when that would have been, but maybe during the reign of king George. The image has taken on a life of its own and as I painted it became more and more spooky with all manner of night creatures, moons and monsters.
