The Somerset Willow Farmers

“The Somerset Willow Farmers” was created by award-winning photographer Josh Lomen. The series of work focuses on the willow farmers of Musgrove Willows and documents the farmer’s day-to-day lives of working on the farm.

During the project, Josh has woven a path through a traditional landscape and has captured the skills, character and expertise of the present-day farmers. The project aims to serve as an archive of the incredible work that the farmers do so that future generations can see how traditional willow farming practices are carried out and how they play a big part in Somerset’s heritage.

The project idea came to life when Josh was trying to figure out what he could photograph for his final major project at university. One day, he stumbled upon a news article about heritage/ endangered crafts and started to look more into the subject and started to learn about the Somerset willow farming and decided that it would be a great idea to document a local craft that still uses traditional ways of working and values as a way to promote the local craft and show it to a wider audience as well as to serve as an archive to protect the heritage craft.

I hope you enjoy the series of work and if you have any questions for Josh about the project or any enquires regarding work, then you can email him or check out his Instagram page.
