Another Frian Street Painting from the Bridgwater Circle series. A photo captured while walking down the street in Bridgwater, Somerset, in better times. An old bell on a big house, set into wood.
The photo taken in the summer during covid in a very different world captured the well-used, worn but still inviting object. I spent the entire time while painting this in isolation wanting disparately to press the button, imagining who might come to the door or that it might be magic and end the lockdown. Permitting time to spend with someone, a friendly sociable person, just to be out visiting again, what a joy. The blue came to represent the sadness that I cannot press the button, but at the same time the promise that one day I will be able to do so.
